The Bar Code dialog options include Postal Bar Code and FIM (Face Identification Marking).
Postal Bar Code is based on the ZIP code of the mailing address whether it is 5 or 9 digits.
Selecting Postal Bar Code, under the Templates menu, Options..., will automatically create POSTNET bar code for all 9-digit ZIP codes by adding the last two digits of the street address to the ZIP+4 code. (See Advanced Bar Code).
You may select one of three bar code positions for printing onto envelopes: Above address, Below address, or Lower right corner. (See Wide-area Bar Code). Lower right corner is not available to you if you are printing labels.
Postal Bar Code is most commonly generated for addresses with 9-digit ZIP codes. If you are only dealing with 5-digit ZIP codes, select Preferences ..., under the Edit menu, and select Print 5-digit bar code as a printing preference.
The FIM alerts the Postal Service's cancelling machine as to whether or not postage is required for the envelope and whether or not bar code exists.
When Bar Code is selected for an envelope, a FIM setting will become available as a Template Option. FIM appears two inches from the right edge of an envelope and is not available to you if you are printing labels.
Check the printed envelope with the specifications in the manual for proper print results. We also advise that you have a Postal Service automation readability specialist check your envelope printing for accuracy.
